Podwalk: Holy Houses and the City

Every city in the world contains houses of worship. Some clearly visible, some unassuming and some hidden altogether. Have you ever looked at them trough a placemaking lens?

Holy Houses in the City: Podwalk Cool-Zuid takes you on a journey past the churches of the Cool Zuid neighborhood in the city centre. Significant changes are ahead for this area’s social fabric, as thousands of additional homes are being built. This will cause the number of residents to double from 3000 to 6000 in the next few years. Which role do these places and their communities play in the neighbourhood, and how will their role change in the near future? Does the influx of new residents pose a threat, or does it offer new opportunities as well?

During this guided tour, the initiators behind the urban festival Holy Houses Rotterdam will tell you more about their experiences in discovering and working with religious communities in the city in opening up their spaces and stories to the general public. After a short introduction, they will take you to Cool Zuid, where the Podwalk ‘Holy Houses and the City’ tells the story of these four places in a changing urban landscape. The audio tour, composed of interviews and contemplative commentary, will allow you to experience the neighbourhood through the eyes of those who know and love it.
